Reduce Mass Shootings This Way!
Unfortunately we need to face the sad truth, no matter how many laws we pass to try and prevent mass shootings, all those laws will do, is make the lawmakers feel warm and fuzzy, however, as we know, those warm and fuzzy laws do little to effect change. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) wasted little time to use the shooting today to announce to the country that this is further proof of the need for gun laws (article by Sam Stein in the Huffington Post . What the Senator fails to acknowledge is in states where concealed carry is allowed, crimes go down not up. These individuals who commit mass shooting usually have planned them in advance and will find a way to get what they think they need. Most of the places where the mass shootings have occurred guns are already prohibited (i.e. Sandy Hook, Aurora and now DC). When criminals are arrested and a gun is used in the commission of a crime,  one of the first charges dropped in most plea bargains are the gun charges.
While the police are suppose to protect us and keep us safe, our current laws prohibit them from stopping most things before they happen. The police are already over worked and only have so many resources. It would be impossible to have an officer in every work place no matter how much you increased their budgets. So what is the solution?
If you are a liberal, this solution will offend you, so I advise you to stop reading now.  Most of these mass shootings are happening in places where the shooter knows that guns are not allowed.  This gives the shooter a sense of security knowing that the situation is uneven with the shooter having a huge advantage.  The way to reduce this advantage is to make these shooters unsure if others are able to defend themselves. You could ban guns coming into these facilities but give an exemption to those who have training in use of handguns.  I would never guarantee that this will stop the mass shooting, but it very likely would reduce the death toll significantly. If I was given the choice, I would much prefer my family and my friends work in a place where they would have a chance to defend themselves rather than being sitting ducks.
