GOP, It Does Not Stand For Grand Old Party Anymore

By … Chuck Pithy
This party, which was founded in 1854, had its start by anti-slavery activists and has grown and evolved into what it is today. If I were to put words to this acronym I would now call them Gutless Obtuse Politicians or perhaps Gutless Obsolete Phonies. The sad truth is while this use to be a party that had strong positions on issues and stood up for them, this is no longer the situation. I will explain why below.
Paul Ryan, who is the GOP poster boy for conservatism, and is acknowledge to be the most knowledgeable person in congress about the budget, has become the latest GOP sellout. For Ryan to stand before the American Public and claim that this is a victory is nothing short of fraud.
First this budget does away with all of the sequester budget limitations, so that is increase number one.
Second this budget has numerous new “fees” (fees are the new less offensive term for a tax) including but not limited to more than doubling the TSA security fee for airline travelers.
Third, not only is the savings back end loaded ( 10 years later) but it includes an increase of 45 billion in spending for 2014 A quote from the Cato Institute’s reprint of a Daily Caller Article says;
“Before the new agreement, current law set discretionary spending at $967 billion in 2014. The new budget deal would raise that cap to $1.012 trillion, which is a spending hike of $45 billion. Why would Republican leaders agree to that? They’re the ones who always claim that it’s the Democrats who are the big spenders. America’s Founders planned for the House to be the body defending the people from a big-spending Senate and president, but today’s House is completely falling down on the job.”
So in a 967 Billion dollar budget, the brilliant Paul Ryan, could not find any place to cut the budget, in fact he increased it. There will be no savings, there will be no debt reduction, because congress once again kickes the can down the road. You can’t claim a budget reduction in 2014-2015, because caps are in place for years beyond 2014-2015. We all know these budgets will be redone and any spending cuts will disappear like usual.
Now if this is not enough to make anyone who thought the GOP stood and fought for us conservatives, let’s hear a quote from speaker of the house John Boehner about the tea party.
“Frankly, I think they’ve lost all credibility. They pushed us into this fight to defund Obamacare and shut down the government… But if you recall, the day before the government reopened, one of the people from one of these groups stood up and said, “We never really thought it would work.†Are you kidding me?” and also he said “”They’re using our members and they are using the American people for their own goals. This is ridiculous,” he said outside a meeting of Republican leaders in Congress on Tuesday.”Â
Creditability, Mr. Speaker, are you kidding me??? Your trying to sell us on how good this budget deal is and how there is savings when there are actually increases? Seems like your credibility is more in question than that of the tea party. By the way, these horrible goals that speaker Boehner is talking about that the tea party supports, lower taxes and small government. Wait hasn’t that been the goal of the GOP???
I supported the shutdown to try defund Obamacare because it is a horrible program that does not work. This also made it clear to the American public which side supported Obamacare and which side opposed it. As history will show, the GOP should have fought harder and not given up.
It seems according to Speaker Boehner and Paul Ryan the GOP has now become “Democrat Light” Goodbye “Grand Old Party”, hello, Gutless Obtuse Politicians. By way of full disclosure, I do not live in Paul Ryan’s district, but I do live in the State of Wisconsin. There are no sacred cows as far as I am concerned, Mr. Ryan, what you did was a disgrace.
